| Installation of SMD-21-08 diesel engine makes it possible to improve the mobility characteristics
and to carry out modernization of the power pack of BRDM-2 vehicles by using the facilities of Ukrainian enterprises.
The tests carried out on the proving ground of the Kharkiv Morozov Design Bureau
have confirmed the high mobility characteristics of the BRDM-2 vehicle fitted with SMD-21-08 diesel engine:
- The cruising range is increased by 25% due to a considerable reduction of fuel consumption while the total volume of fuel tanks remaines unchanged.
- The cross-country ability of the vehicle is increased due to the increase of engine torque by 1.7 times.
- Installation of the reliable diesel engine SMD-21-08 has resulted in increase of engine on-vehicle service life by 1.5 times.
- The time between power pack maintenance cycles is increased by 3-4
times.
