The vehicle was created on the basis of the T-64A tank in order
to elaborate the installation of the 6TD engine and its support systems.
Later on, 5 vehicles were built on the basis of the T-64B
tank under the designation of the T-64BM. The vehicles were subjected
to army trials.
The developments in the area of turret and fighting compartment of the Obiekt 476 were
later introduced into the T-80U and T-80UD design, while the
developments in the area of power pack - into T-80UD design.
